Manuel allows a run in the 7th, which pushes his AA ERA all the way up to 1.50.

Chattanooga trails 1-0 after seven innings.
    I miss Adam Dunn.

Ha, touche. I guess I was holding out hope that he could at least be a guy that was shuffled back and forth between AAA and the Majors a few years down the line (which isn't saying much for a second-round pick). But he won't even get there.

I wouldn't care if they just released this guy. He has an Ivy League education, might be time for the kid to find his life's work.

Ramon Geronimo throws a 1-2-3 8th inning with a strikeout...he's now thrown 4.2 hitless innings with a 1 BB/8 K ratio since his promotion to Chattanooga.

Re: Monday July 28th minor league updates

I'm not sure how uncommon it is, but some of the performances out of the bullpen this year, throughout the system, seem rather remarkable. Not sure if I have all the pertinent updates from tonight, but I think it's something like this:

(Sorry the chart's so hard to read. Not sure how to do that sort of thing. I tried more spaces to line it up, but that didn't work.)

Pitcher IP H ER BB K WHIP ERA

    Mace Thurman, Billings 12.2 5 0 4 11 0.71 0.00

    Aguido Gonzalez, Billings 12.1 5 0 5 23 0.81 0.00
    Aguido Gonzalez, Dayton 5.2 2 0 0 5 0.35 0.00
    Aguido Gonzalez, Sarasota 4.0 3 0 4 1 1.50 0.00
    Aguido Gonzalez, Total 22.0 10 0 9 29 0.86 0.00

    Jeremy Horst, Dayton* 70.2 47 21 26 79 1.03 2.67

    Zach Stewart, Dayton 16.1 10 1 3 13 0.80 0.55
    Zach Stewart, Sarasota 3.0 2 0 2 5 1.33 0.00
    Zach Stewart, Total 19.1 12 1 5 18 1.09 0.46

    Ramon Geronimo, Sarasota 41.1 22 4 11 48 0.80 0.87
    Ramon Geronimo, Chatt 4.2 0 0 1 8 0.21 0.00
    Ramon Geronimo, Total 46.0 22 4 12 56 0.76 0.78

    Robert Manuel, Sarasota 7.2 5 0 3 11 1.04 0.00
    Robert Manuel, Chattanooga 60.0 40 10 14 75 0.90 1.50
    Robert Manuel, Total 67.2 45 10 17 86 0.92 1.33

    Josh Roenicke, Chatt 22.0 21 8 12 28 1.50 3.27
    Josh Roenicke, Louisville 24.2 16 6 5 25 0.87 2.19
    Josh Roenicke, Total 46.2 37 14 17 53 1.16 2.69

    Daniel Herrera, Chatt 17.2 12 5 7 10 1.08 2.55
    Daniel Herrera, Louisville 36.0 32 9 8 30 1.11 2.25
    Daniel Herrera, Total 53.2 44 14 15 40 1.10 2.35

    * Horst has four starts out of his 30 appearances. These are his total numbers.

All of that, of course, doesn't account for some of the other (sometimes more) highly regarded prospects in the system, the likes of Carlos Fisher, Terrell Young, Pedro Viola and Tyler Pelland, whose numbers, for the current season, don't match the ones above.

You can line everything up by making sure it's lined up in Notepad and then using the code function (sometimes you have to click on 'Go Advanced' and then click on the pound (#) sign). Or if clicking isn't your thing, you can just type without the pound signs.

I think it's interesting how bad the Lookouts' bullpen has been. At the beginning of the year, some of us (including some national press) were saying it could possibly be the best bullpen in all of the minors. This was back when the bullpen still had Josh Roenicke and Danny Herrera, but they were sent to Louisville long ago. Thankfully, Robert "Bullpen God" Manuel and Ramon "Dr. Zero" Geronimo are with the team to help balance things out.

    Chattanooga Lookouts 2008 bullpen
    WHIP Player
    1.42 Carlos Fisher (in Lou)
    1.50 Josh Roenicke (in Lou)
    1.54 Mike Hrynio (midseason signing)
    1.68 Pedro Viola
    1.76 Sean Watson (from Sar)
    1.85 Derrik Lutz
    1.87 Lee Tabor (from Sar)
    1.90 Justin James (in Sar)

Yeah, it's crazy. Almost as crazy as a small-market team shelling out 40-something million dollars for a closer when they aren't even close to having all of the other pieces in the puzzle in place. What kind of team would do that?
