Sean Casey has not played well since he left Cincy. We dumped his salary with was the intent of the trade anyway. We won that trade even though we got nothing in return.

I know he's been injured and seen limited action since he left but when healthy, he's hit .295.

Cody Ross is sure looking like that guy. And although Cantu wasn't a giveaway (since he wasn't traded), it looks like a blunder now (even though I'm not sure where they would've played him).

Cody Ross is a left-handed outfielder. The Reds knew what they had when they acquired him, but there was just no room for him. Still, they tried to get a prospect for him, but the Marlins weren't willing to give up anyone the Reds wanted, so the Reds got a big chunk of cash ($500,000, iIrc).

As for Cantu, I'm not sure he was the centerpiece of the deal. Shaun Cumberland has a .290/.358/.436 line with 17 stolen bases and solid defense between AA and AAA, where he is one of the younger players and better prospects.

Cody Ross hits right handed and has a .275/.333/.545 line vs. LHP this year. Cumberland is going to be a 4th OFer at best.

You're both right--Cody Ross is left-handed, but he bats right-handed. Other examples of this rare player include Rickey Henderson, Cleon Jones, Mark Carreon, and Brian R. Hunter.

My bad on Ross. Personally, I'm expecting more out of Cumberland than Ross (over the course of an entire career), but only time will tell. I'd be surprised if Ross continues to hit the way he has, and I don't think Cumberland will ever slug over .500, but he could be one of those consistent Reggie Sanders-types. Sure, it probably won't happen, but in Cumberland's prime, I could see a few 20/20 seasons with solid defense.

    And me, too.

Although it is much rarer for a position player (OF or 1B) than it is for a pitcher or a member of the general population.

That lefty hockey stroke probably feels a lot like a two-handed backhand to a righty tennis player.

Griffey hit his 17th home run of the season tonight. It was also the 610th homer of his career which puts him in the top five all-time. He had been tied with Sosa.

I was hoping he got to 610. Could be the last one for the future HOF. I hate to see him struggle so much in sox town. It's amazing what we did get in trade for him.
