Hanigan is only 28. Are we sure he doesn't need a couple more years of seasoning at AAA? And so what he hits .300, the Reds never have trouble finding catchers that can hit.

Gives us one less thing to worry about in the offseason, which is why he needs to be up now getting plenty of AB's to see if he can be that semi acceptable leadoff guy.
That target OBP would certainly seem feasible, and especially so if he were used as a platoon player. He has a .394 against righties this year. It's hard to see why that wouldn't project to .350 in the big leagues, when (if he were a leadoff guy) he would be batting in front of better hitters. Combine that with 25 steals and excellent defense, which he is reputed to play, and you have an answer.

It certainly seems like this would be the time to find out, at any rate. The Brewers are throwing a righthander tomorrow night. Dickerson's hot. And not even Dusty is eager to start Patterson anymore.

When did Viola move to the rotation? Does he have a third pitch?

This is his second start of the season, the first was on July 24th in the second game of a doubleheader. Threw 3.2 innings of one hit shutout ball in that game with 0 BB and 6 K's. I'm not sure about the third pitch.

He pitched to let Jordan Smith have more rest. Something to do with his foot.

Thanks. Hopefully it's nothing too serious.

He's 24 years old and succeeding in A+. Maybe he could be bumped to AA with Tonys Gutierrez (finally) going to AAA (and resulting in a release of the highly-unnecessary Kevin Barker). This could make room for Yonder Alfonso in Sarasota . . .

After throwing six shutout innings yesterday, Evan Hildenbrandt now has a 2.34 ERA in 42.1 innings with a 14 BB/42 K ratio. He's looking like another fine pick from that strong 2007 draft. Canada was very good to the Reds in the 2007 draft, eh?

Absolutely. I'm really loving that draft. And look at Hildenbrandt's teenage teammate, Shea Snowden, who has a 1.50 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. The Italian teens have allowed only one earned run over 14 innings or so, too.
