The Reds continue to not be able to get Lee out and Cordero gives up 2 runs.

    7-5 Astros

Cordero has now walked 31 batters in 51.1 innings.

and we though Volquez had a problem walking people.

    Cordero stinks.

Why on earth does/did he have the reputation of being a high calibre closer?

No one remembered that he lost his job as closer in 2006. Premium closers don't really lose their jobs that often.

Well, reputation is based on the past. In the past he was an above average closer.

I didn't think that he really had that reputation. He lost the closer's job in Texas in 2006 after blowing 9 saves in 15 chances with a 4.81 ERA.

Traded to Milwaukee late in the season in 2006, he improved dramatically, much like Arroyo did when he first moved over. Then in 2007, he had his career year, coincidentally in his walk year. He converted 44 out of 51 save apportunities, and had a 2.98 ERA. But even in 2007 there were warning signs: His ERA in Miller Park was 1.08, and on the road it was 5.40.

I think the league has caught up to him. Tonight won't even count as a blown save, since the game was tied when he came in. Still, he lost this game, and has raised his ERA from the 2.20 level to 3.90 level since the break. Scary.
