With all the talk about bringing Dunn back or not, it might be moot.
Why would he want to return to this mess?

With his buds Griffey and Kearns gone, and the condition of this club, he'd have to be an idiot to return.

The fans have given up, but the players have to keep playing.

If I was him I wouldn't even answer the Reds calls in the offseason.

    2. Patterson bunts(on the 1st pitch) down the first base line, hesitates to see if it stays fair, then is thrown out by a step.
    3. Bruce singles to right.
    4. Phillips singles into the hole between 1st and 2nd.
    5. Dunn flies to center, Bruce tags and goes to 3rd.
    6. Encarnacion bounces to short, Tejada fumbles it, infield hit, Bruce scores!
    7. Valentin flies out to left.

    After 7: Astros 3, Reds 1.

    Moehler 80 pitches, 52 strikes.
    Affeldt 12 pitches, 9 strikes.

They need that much-maligned minor-league policy where the batter must take the first two pitches.

After tonight, the reds would have the 5th pick in next years draft only % points below the Indians...

If they keep playing like this they can go for the #1 pick.

    Re: Reds vs. Astros 8/9/08

You have to wonder what happens to players and pitchers when they come to the Reds. It must be something in the water.

Last year, Affeldt at Colorado, pitched 59 innings and allowed 47 hits. This year, he has already pitched more innings (60) and allowed more hits (61). Cordero pitched 63 innings and allowed 52 hits but only walked 18 all year. He's already walked 31 here and his ERA has balooned by a run.

Can't figure it out at all.

That's a stretch, because the Ms, Nats and Padres have a huge lead over the REDs. Fifth looks very attainable, perhaps 4th, especially if the reds keep fielding these players.

Make that 3-28 -- a .107 average and he's hitting leadoff? The fact that they continue to play him only proves that we have no bench, another failure at formulating a roster.

Astros bring in a lefty to face Patterson. Question is, why bother?
