Javier Valentin - Everyday 1st baseman
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

How about the Pirates' lineup: LaRoches back to back.

Dickerson flies out but made Snell throw seven pitches.

With a nasty slider and changeup, why in the hell is Bako constantly calling for two strike fastballs? Geez. Dude calls a terrible game. Freddy Sanchez will chase anything, so why call for a two strike fastball? I can't wait until Bako is no longer a Red.

Cueto has struggled mightily in the first inning lately and it appears that will stay the same tonight.

It's going to be a long night. Cueto allows back to back hits.

Cueto already in trouble...is this year's first inning, last year's eighth inning?

1-0 Pirates. Three hits in the first inning, but the two strikeouts are worth more, right?

Pirates announcers saying that Cueto is mad because he made a good pitch to LaRouche and he still hit it.

It looked as if Cueto was going to escape as he got two K's and had an 0-2 count on LaRoche before he singled on 2-2 after Cueto threw five straight sliders.

Now a walk. And a 30 pitch first inning. Uh Oh.

    Re: Reds vs Pirates 8/14/08

This is the fourth straight start in which Cueto has struggled badly in the first inning and thrown a bunch of pitches. In the other three he settled down and pitched well after that.
