    Weathers

I dunno how he does it with his 89 mph fastball, but we might as well sign him. He's been as consistent as anyone in the bullpen.

Just ask Trevor Hoffman how he does it.

His delivery hides the ball for a long time. That helps.

If we can get anything of value for him we should move him, his stock is up.

unfortunately he never was the dominate spot on pitcher like maddux with subpar velocity.. sometimes weathers can thread the needle.. other times it looks like he cant find the glove..

I'm not against him, because he can set up and close IF

need be, but unless he comes with a fairly cheap price tag, forget it. However, if we lose him, we get a Comp B selection I think, so if Alonso doesn't sign and Weathers bolts, we'll have 2 1st rounders and 2 2nd rounders in the draft. Sadly though, it's not considered a very good draft, which is purely the Reds luck.

You would have to offer Weathers arbitration to get a pick and Weathers would almost definitely accept it.

    Re: Weathers

    Heat is overrated.

It's all about mistakes. If you don't leave the ball out over the plate, people aren't going to hit you hard, even if you're throwing in the high 80's. The only thing a 95 mph fastball does is let you get away with it from time to time. High heat can be an out pitch, too, but good junk will serve the same purpose.

Beyond that the name of the game is change speed/change location.

I see where you are coming from, though I look at it differently. I would think that he has decided that he's leaving. If I were his age, I wouldn't want to sit around while a team rebuilds.

I disagree. Someone will give him a two-year deal.
