I had a kid tell me the other day that he was offered a spot on a pro Halo team. I just laughed at him. It's amazing what this world is coming to.

I don't see why people are surprised. Any medium with a growing demographic willing to spend money will draw advertisers. Those advertisers will eventually sponsor professional events. There's decent money to be made in gaming, if you're among the best of the best.

It may not last, and the kid probably won't get super rich from it, but if he can cash in while he has the shot, he should go for it. He may pay for his college and/or parlay this gig into a sweet job in the gaming industry.

Anyone read the article in the paper on Sunday or Saturday about the pro-gamer in northern kentucky? Kid gets 6 figures to play Halo. They pay for his hotels and his flights, etc. He signs autographs at the places he goes too and all of it.

It's getting big, it'll be on ESPN in the next 2 years i'm 100% sure of it.

Once the fad of Guitar Hero is over, so will this kid's career. It's just not a practical long term job.

We were at the bar the other night after softball, and one of my teammates - who is a Cubs fan - was laughing as Spike TV showed coverage of the Comic Con in San Diego and they showed all kinds of people decked out in crazy comic costumes.

I told him that someone who goes to Cubs games sporting a Cubs Jersey, Cubs hat, has a Cubs Tire Cover for his SUV, and hangs a giant Cubs flag in his office (and probably has a matching one at home) doesn't really have room to point fingers and laugh about people's obsessive fan habits.

Sure. This kid isn't trying to be the next Jeff Beck. He's not a musician, he's a game player and I don't think anyone is claiming any different. Writing and playing songs is an entirely different skill set than Guitar Hero.

My mom should have let me stay home.

I could have made a living being the all-time Asteroids champion. I was unstoppable.

All fast-twitch muscle fiber fastest gun in the west stuff. Believe me, it doesn't last.

I don't think rhythm games are a fad, I think they are establishing a new genre that's here to stay. A highly lucrative new genre at that.

And he's going to be completely destitute and helpless once he's made his money on Guitar Hero?
How do we know he's not Mel Torme?
