The starting SS for the Orioles the past month and a half?

None other than our old pal, Juan Castro.

Some teams fight for playoff spots, others give starts to players like Corey Patterson and Juan Castro in meaningless August games. Sigh.

He has a better OBP than Patterson too. Corey has him in slugging though.

    Juan Castro: 118 PA, .194/.233/.250

    Corey Patterson: 295 PA, .196/.233/.337

Core Patterson, the Juan Castro of CF.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Actually, if the O's could pitch at all, they'd be pretty good even with Castro wasting ABs. They're like the Rangers-lite, 4th in RS, 2nd last in RA.
