Viola pitched much better after he was moved to the rotation. Maybe it was a coincidence but another theory is maybe he was relying too much on just one pitch as a reliever and the started mixing up his pitches more after he converted to a starter. Check out his stats as a starter:

    33 IP, 27 H, 9 BB/30 K, 2.45 ERA

I like his stuff a lot. He could help the Reds bullpen sometime next season.

Why not the rotation (at some point)? Given the thin ranks of starting pitchers in the system and the apparent surplus of relievers, it would seem that they might contemplate stretching out at least a few of the bullpen guys. They had short-term success with Viola, Jeremy Horst and Enerio Del Rosario for the last month or so. Any other candidates? Herrera? Manuel (who seemed to have quite a few stints of three innings or so)? Lutz? Geronimo? Valiquette? Aguido Gonzalez? Terrell Young? Even if all those guys were switched (which I wouldn't necessarily advocate), the relief prospects would still include Roenicke, Fisher, Watson, Stewart, Thurman, Beal, Krebs, Jeffords . . . virtually all of the top guys.

    Wow Soto,

Is he on the fast track now?

    OBM,

Next year at Sarasota then to Chat if he warrants it?

Imagine Chat next year with Soto at 3rd, Yonder at 1st.

I think we'll see Soto in Sarasota to begin next season and possibly spend the whole year there unless he dominates the league and forces a promotion.
