The first baseball cards I ever got were from the back of a box of Twinkies. I believe it was in 1977. This is what they looked like:
Unfortunately, I didn't get anyone as interesting as Stargell. The first cards I ever got were of legendary pitchers Rick Reuschel and Jim Slaton.

Rusty Kuntz - how could I forget that one?
This one always stuck in my head, just for the goofy factor - and because he was seemingly in every other pack of '81 Topps.
And I always thought this guy had the least likely name and look of any baseball player I'd ever seen.

You must have had all of the packs I needed - Gordy was one of the last cards I got. The great Jim Clancy, on the other hand...
The 1981 set was the first (and last) set I completed only through the bubble-gum packs. In previous years, I came up short. After that, I began collecting complete sets.
when it come to names it is hard to top the immortal Arquimedez Pozo
I had an orange one-speed stingray with the banana seat until I saved up my berry-picking money and bought a ten-speed with the skinny tires--what a mistake that was on Washington county rural roads
First baseball card was a Jimmy Wynn out of a Wheatie's box. (They put a 3D reflective coating on those cards, they tended to curl inwards) 2nd card was Willie Mays from the next box of Wheaties, early '70s. That was a BIG DEAL
