    Texas Reds fans....

I know there are several of us on here. I live just north of Galveston so we look to take the brunt of Hurricane Ike head on late tonight/early tomorrow. For now, we're planning on riding it out. If it worsens...we'll bug out. But for those of you other Texas-based Reds fans...best of luck to you guys.

I'll miss out on the next few games I'd assume, so do your best you guys to keep our Reds' winning ways going. Go Redlegs!

I've heard dire predictions for what Ike is going to do to Galveston -- take care SC!
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

I bet Jay Bruce and Dunn will be keeping a close eye on this storm. Bruce lives in Beaumont which is right in the path of Ike and Dunner lives in the Houston area.

I just saw some horrible video from Galveston on the 12 o'clock news, and I can only assume it's going to get worse. Safety to everyone and the families of our players whose homes are in that area... including Adam Dunn. In my heart, he will always be ours.

    Get out of there!

fortunately, I'm in the panhandle, and Ike isn't expected to do much of anything this far north.

    best wishes SC.

SC AND ANYONE ELSE, GET OUT OF THERE!!!!!

National Hurricane Center: "Persons not heeding evacuation orders in single-family, one- or two-story homes may face certain death. … Widespread and devastating personal property damage is likely elsewhere."

    http://news.nationalgeographic.com/n...icane-ike.html

If you read the article, that is not a warning they usually issue. GET OUT OF THERE. I join everyone else in wishing you and your family the best of luck, and I'm not one to tell others how to live their lives, but I repeat GET OUT OF THERE. Please.

They said this is only the second time the NHC has ever said something like that... the last time was during Hurricane Katrina. One of the networks showed a group of probably 15 people or so drinking at a bar on the Galveston Beach and the reporter flat out told those folks they were going to die if they stayed there.

Reds keeping eye on Hurricane Ike
Several players have ties to Houston area, where storm will hit
    By Mark Sheldon / MLB.com

PHOENIX -- Televisions in the Reds clubhouse were tuned to a different channel than normal on Friday.

Screens that might have otherwise shown a movie or another game showed coverage of Hurricane Ike as it closed in on the Texas coast.

"That's a monster," manager Dusty Baker exclaimed as his office TV showed the weather radar image.

Reds players Jay Bruce, Gary Majewski and Paul Janish have homes in or ties to the Houston area. Bruce wasn't sure what to expect from the Category 2 storm.

"We'll see in the next few hours," said Bruce before the Reds played the Diamondbacks. "They said it would hit at the Port of Houston. My house is two miles from the Port of Houston."

Several Houston area sporting events were postponed in anticipation of Ike, including games between the Astros and Cubs on Friday and Saturday.

    Re: Texas Reds fans....

I'm posting this from a Best Western. We decided to ride out the storm. After some late shifts to its track, the eye hit us in Dickinson head on. It battered us something fierce, but after all was said and done, we'd lost 2 of our 3 back yard fences, a ton of shingles...and that's it. We've had no power since about 9pm last night, so with 3 kids we bugged out for a room with A/C tonight. I'll look into a one-room A/C unit I can power with a generator. They're saying the Houston/Galveston area could be without power for 2-4 weeks. Yikes. Over 2 million without power. 95 degree heat, high humidity, no A/C...not a combination I'm looking forward to. Thanks for all the best wishes guys. Now I've got to catch up on my missed sports actions (reds & buckeyes).
