    New Mudcats logo?

Eh... not very good work. I did it in paint in like 3 minutes. I still like the concept of it.

Count me as one who is kind of sad they didn't go with CT. It would have been nice to see Reds minor leaguers on the road in Akron. However, I think the best deal would have been to follow the Indians lead and have their AA team closer to home, in Dayton. The Indians have their AA team in Akron. They've also taken the interesting step of putting an A team, the Lake County Captains in a Cleveland suburb, yet they play in the Sally League. So why not have Dayton play in the Eastern or Carolina Leagues? I think it makes sense to have your higher levels closer to home. Not only does it make it an easier trip for the FO to visit the lower levels, but it gives the team plenty of options for things like rehab starts (which are also a boon to the minor league team). The Aeros regularly see rehab starts from Indians starters. Plus, Reds fans could follow players from Dayton to Louisville to the Reds.

Opens up a new take on a classic joke:

What's the difference between the Cincinnati Reds and a Mudcat?

One's a bottom-dweller, stuck beneath the surface and feeding off the scraps, the other is a minor league mascot.

I am really excited about this. I live approximately two hours from Five County Stadium and have been there numerous times. This stadium is very strange. The seats are very, very close to the field. They are so close that a huge net stretches almost the entire length of the seats to protect people in the lower deck from foul balls. There are actually more seats in the upper deck than downstairs. The stadium is just outside of Raleigh, NC and there is really nothing around the stadium. It is out in the middle of no where. FYI...if you are coming down from Cincy and want to catch some autograph action, the visitors clubhouse is outside of the right field fence. The players have to walk from the clubhouse into the stadium in the right field corner. However my guess is that the Reds will use the home clubhouse which is down the left field line and the prospects will use the right field clubhouse. The Marlins played the Mudcats there five years ago and that is how they did it. I am sitting right beside the Reds' dugout at the exhibition game. The tickets went on sale at 9 A.M. I was printing them out at 9:05 A.M. I am ready for the season to start today!!!

sounds like a very small foul area. We'll have to remember that when evaluating stats. I have always felt that the large foul area in Oakland made their pitching appear better than it really was.

Okay, for now at least you are the official Redszone rep for AA. Hope you do a much better job of keeping this site apprised of what's happening than those from Chattanooga did!. AA is such an important level, it is the make or break point it seems. If a player does well at AA, he's good enough to play MLB, (as long as the distractions are kept at Bay)!! Look forward to hearing from you often.
