I like BaseballReference.com.
ESPN tracks errors in the player stats page (you have select defense at the top after navigating to the Stats page.
However, here three other extremely good stats sites
Baseball Reference: http://www.baseball-reference.com Anything ESPN can do B-R can do better. Basically THE online baseball stats encyclopedia.
The Hardball Times: http://www.hardballtimes.com/ Think Baseball Prospectus but a little more casual / less arrogant. Good general stat section with a bit of the more advanced stuff. Not as much custom, hard-core stuff as BP however.
FanGraphs: http://www.fangraphs.com/ No defensive stats for position players, but great batted ball, plate discipline, pitch type, and win probability data. Some of it's data is unique and extremely useful.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
