I have a plan that will help everyone.
Kick the yankees out of MLB, let them have playoff games against little league teams and they can crown themselves champions for life.
Go Gators!
Hank Steinbrenner seems to be doing his best to become the Mike Brown of baseball.
I think the reasoning for the divisional format is to keep fans from different geographic regions interested in the playoffs. People might start to lose interest if the AL playoffs were dominated by the mega-market teams from the East Coast. Divisions ensure that at least one team from the Midwest and the Western U.S. will be represented. If you want to even things out a bit to make them fair, dump the unbalanced schedule and interleague games. The more teams play games against other teams in their own league, the more likely the wild card truly reflects the best non-division winning team.
Wear gaudy colors, or avoid display. Lay a million eggs or give birth to one. The fittest shall survive, yet the unfit may live. Be like your ancestors or be different. We must repeat!
