Marty said on the air the other night that Frank McCormick's 1938 season is considered his rookie season and he drove in 106 runs that year which is the Reds team record.

All great names to be within....

    I have 2 hypothetical questions.

    1. If Hatty had hit like he did last year, would Votto rode the bench most of this year or do you think Duhhhsty woulda sat Hatty regardless.

2 If Hatty hadnt won the opening day job, and Votto hadnt sat for 2 weeks or so and his father hadnt passed what woulda he projected out to over 162?

I think the Reds were determined to play Votto everyday. Hattie was just insurance in case Votto came out and batted like Corey Patterson all season.
    Who's on first?

Too bad they didn't have insurance for Patterson, too!

I think Hatty would still be on the team and getting playing time against lefties.

I think the Reds would have liked for Votto to have been the everyday guy, but he did almost nothing in ST to warrant starting. They were at least smart enough to not start him in AAA again.

Go Joey!! What a great year he had for his first full season in the big leagues and I can't wait to see what he does next year. He's a star on the rise!
"I tried to play golf, but I found out I wasn't very good." -Joey Votto on his offseason hobby search

An MLB.com reporter asked what one thing Votto couldn’t do. “I can’t skate or play hockey,” Votto said. “Well, I can skate ... but I can’t stop.”

Note my earlier post, Frank McCormick holds the Reds rookie record for RBI with 106.
