    Question re 2003

For someone with a better memory. I just read that the last pitcher to start 4 straight starts on 3 days rest was Danny Graves in 2003. CC is currently at 3 in a row. Looking back to '03 it looks the Reds last were at .500 on June 24 and fell back in a big way in early July. Why on earth was Graves used on short rest in 4 straight games? Was it because of the trades? The idea that if he was tired his sinker would have more life?

    Bob Boone's experimental four-man rotation.

    An excerpt from Baseball Prospectus:

"Spurred on by a spectacularly bad outing by Jimmy Anderson, one of a long string of awful outings by their fifth starters, the Reds have announced that they will go with a four-man rotation, but they are committing to it only until the All-Star Break."

    It could totally be worse.

    Those were dark, dark days.

Yeah, I remember that that was basically the idea/rationale.

It certainly had more life. It flew all over the field. Just as people talk about how this stock market is the worst since the Great Depression (a total joke/lie), people need to look at that team and see just how bad the Reds can be. We should have known then that it was going to be many years before we even sniff October.

I remember one time going out to the mound to talk with Bob Gibson. He told me to get back behind the batter, that the only thing I knew about pitching was that it was hard to hit.

Ah the things we try to erase from our memories. Thanks for the info.
