Offseason outlook for Houston Astros - mlbtraderumors.com

    http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/1...son-out-6.html

The reason I posted this is because they are projecting a next season payroll of about $110 million for the 'Stros. Is Cincinnati really that pinched that they cannot up our payroll to $90-$100 million?

The outlook article about the Reds projected an '09 payroll with current committed contracts and arbitration, of $60 million. It would never happen, but they could trade for Suzuki to be our leadoff hitter ($18 million), sign Manny ($20 million), and sign Sabathia ($20 million) and we'd have this thing locked up!

Gee, I don't think we'd go unmentioned very often on ESPN if we signed those three!
    Who's on first?

with the way the economy'ss going I wouldn't sign any free agents right now. Don't think Wall street won't affect the diamond.

yeah that's what i've thought although that doesn't mean i wouldn't talk to ANY free agents. players like ibanez, rivera, etc that wouldn't cost a ton would make more sense. it will be more important than ever to spend wisely.

edit: but the reds will have to do something since this division looks like it will be the toughest in the NL top to bottom.
