    Why wouldn't those three qualify?

Camilo Vazquez was drafted by Bowden's people in 2002 (and signed in November), so I would he should be eligible. Alex Smit signed in July of 2002, so he couldn't he be eligible? And Yubert Rodriguez was signed in 2000 (but didn't play in their rookie league until 2003).

I don't know if I am a reliable source but I can tell you that the transaction information I have provided is correct.

Sorry, I do not know much about Eli Rimes. The scout who signed him, Keith Chapman, must have seen something he liked about him at Sonoma State and thought he was worth taking a flyer on in the 25th round. He barely played in the Reds organization. Sometimes players show up to mini-camp after the draft and the player development people wonder what the scout saw in the guy. Or sometimes the player never gets totally healthy.

I once had a minor league hitting coach tell me that his organization should find the scout who signed a particular player that had been assigned to his team and fire the scout, just for signing that player.

I'll be disappointed if Gutierrez is cut loose. He's a guy I'd liked to have seen given a shot to make the team as a bench player/pinch hitter type. He's not going to provide any power, but with lots of walks and lots of on-base percentage (.396 lifetime minor league OBP) he wouldn't be a bad option to have on the end of the bench.

Pinch hitters who can actually reach base, unlike the mess of the Reds' bench the last few seasons, are a nice asset to have.

I agree. Plus, Gutierrez is a good defender. He's a nice player to have around.

Man, George Lombard has to be climbing some career-stats lists in AAA. He's been there at least part-time for a decade. He had a great year in the Southern League in 1998 and was thought to be the Next Big Thing, but just never could get over the hump...

Ivan Ochoa was also granted free agency by the Giants. He may not be a bad pickup for Louisville. His bat came around this year and he's always been a solid defender at SS.

Should the Reds try to get Marcus McBeth (AAA) back from Redsox?

I don't think so. I like the guy, and I think he could be decent, but I don't think it makes sense to spend resources on an unestablished reliever who might turn into a decent bullpen option because the Reds are already rich on guys like that. The Reds already have Roenicke, Fisher, Herrera, Pelland, Manuel, and several other guys in the organization with similar or higher ceilings.
