    Pedro Martinez

I just read where Pedro is a target of Pittsburgh, and has relationships there. IF they are the major suitor for him, and I were Walt, I'd giver serious consideration to trying to bring him in here for a year or two. That would give one heck of a mentor to Volquez and Cueto while they continue to mature. It would be hard to put a dollar value on the role he could play in helping those two. Thoughts?

That wouldn't be a bad idea to mentor these kids. If the Pirates are suitors then I think the Reds should at least entertain the idea.

The Reds already have a mentor named Cordero that those kids seem to get along with just fine and martinez is well past prime.

Then he needs to be named the Pitching coach and move on. It sounds like he is that for Cueto and Volquez. I agree with you, but if that's the case, Mario needs to be with the team all the time. I love what he does for the kids, and I was thinking along the lines of, Pedro would be there in between innings, after games, etc.

I'd be perfectly ok with that.

The Pirates!?!? The same Pirates who thought Matt Morris was a good idea?

As much as I've enjoyed watching Pedro pitch through the years, I'd rather not see him fade (or crash) in GAB. I really hope he retires.

    No chance of that:

SI.com's Jon Heyman talked to Pedro Martinez's agent, Fern Cuza. Cuza says his client will pitch next year, and "it'll be fun to see the old Pedro again." He's healthy now after last year's hamstring injury.

The Mets will be in the mix. GM Omar Minaya reportedly told Mike Francesa of WFAN that he'll make Pedro an offer "of some sort." You have to think Pedro will end up with a one-year, incentive-based deal somewhere.
