    2003 Draft

Was just looking over the following list and found something that just blew my mind:

    http://www.redlegnation.com/2003%20Draft%20Tracker.htm

There is only 1 PLAYER left in the Reds system from the 2003 Draft and that is 16th round pick Chris Dickerson

Sorry if this has been discussed before but in my opinion it just shows how much better the Reds have gotten at scouting and drafting good players over the past few years

    Re: 2003 Draft

Of the homegrown products, Joey Votto (2nd round, 2002) has been with the organization the longest (along with Camilo Vazquez).

The Reds have come a long way since then, but it wasn't over night. The 2004 draft hasn't exactly come to fruition just yet.

Homer Bailey - can he put it together?
    B.J. Szymanski - bust
Craig Tatum - will he ever hit?
    Rafael Gonzalez - bust
Paul Janish - will he ever hit?
Phil Valiquette - good potential, bad results
Terrell Young - limited ceiling, mediocre results
Drew M. Anderson - probably AAAA fodder

And of the 14 players remaining from the 2005 draft, you can already write off half of them as players who will never reach the Major Leagues.

2006 is when things really started to turn around, in my opinion. It might be remembered as the "We could have had Tim Lincecum draft", but it's also the draft in which the Reds acquired Chris Heisey, Danny Dorn, Josh Roenicke, and many others who are thriving in the organization, not to mention the players drafted in the earlier rounds who are some of the Reds' best prospects.

    Re: 2003 Draft

The 2005 draft will be very successful IMO if Jay Bruce develops into a superstar like we expect. Travis Wood still has a chance to develop into a solid pitcher. Zach Ward netted us Kyle Lohse who later turned into Matt Maloney. Jeff Stevens netted Brandon Phillips. Carlos Fisher looks like he could be a good major league reliever. Adam Rosales has a chance to be a solid player even if it's as a backup. The 2006 draft looks pretty good but the 2007 draft has a chance to be special and the 2008 draft looks good so far. Hopefully the trend of good drafts continues.

    2003 & 2004 Drafts

Not only are these guys not in the organization almost are all out of baseball.
    Ouch.

If Bailey doesn't pan out the 2004 draft also looks terrible.
