Who gets invited to Big League ST?

Which Reds minor league players will get an invite to Spring Training with the big boy's? We know Alonso and Francisco will be there. Valaika? Stubbs? Fraizer? Etc...

Stubbs got a few at-bats last year, iIrc, so I think we can bank on him being there.

    Juan Francisco
    Todd Frazier
    Yonder Alonso
    Drew Stubbs
    Daryl Thompson
    Homer Bailey
    Chris Valaika
    Danny Dorn
    Zach Stewart

    Just my guess.

I left out guys like Dickerson, Ramirez, and Roenicke since they are locks to be in big league camp.

Alonso, Bailey and Francisco are also locks because they are on the 40 man roster.

I can see Justin Turner getting an invite as well.

I totally forgot about those four. Good call. But as Doug pointed out, they'll be in big league camp since they're already on the 40-man roster.

Besides the guys on the 40 man roster I'd expect Ryan Jorgenson, Chris Kroski, Jon Adkins, Adam Pettyjohn, Pedro Viola, Ben Jukich, Drew Stubbs, Chris Valaika, Drew Anderson (The OF), Sean Henry, Luis Bolivar, Chris Denove, Todd Frazier, Justin Turner, Sean Watson, Phil Valiquette and whoever they sign to minor league deals this offseason. I'm guessing the team will go heavy on Catchers and LHP.

If that is too many, I'd guess they drop Frazier, Henry and Watson.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Re: Who gets invited to Big League ST?

The entire 40 man roster gets invited. Since they will be working a lot of pitchers simultaneously, they need warm bodies at catcher so about 4 get invited but it's not an indicator of their stature within the organization.

Most of the extra guys that get invites are veteran minor league FA's that sign and the invite is part of the signing package.

Very few (4-5) non-roster "prospects" get an invite, and most are pitchers. If we have less than 40 on roster a couple more might get invites. So my guess:

    Stubbs, Valaika, Stewart, Pelland, Turner

Speaking of catchers, Ryan Jorgensen, Chris Kroski, and Chris Denove will probably get invited.

Sweet! I can't get enough of 30 year old catchers with career minor league lines of .314/.373/.687!

He's a real mastur with the glove, though. I think he could be the Reds' key to a successful 2009.
