    Re: Favorite Rock Albums

Metallica - Metallica - They may have better albums before but IMO this was at their peak.

Creed - My Own Prison - Was a great album before Creed went mainstream.

Pearl Jam - Ten - One of the all time great debuts.

Bruce Springsteen - Greatest Hits - Had all his great rock songs.

Live - Throwing Copper - One of the first CD's I have ever owned. Whenever I hear a live song on the radio and it ends I automatically begin to sing the song that followed it on the album.

The Offspring - Smash - IMO Offspring's best album. A mix of hard hitting punk and rock before they really turned mainstream.

    Re: Favorite Rock Albums

This list reminds me that I've had many favorites over the years that I just don't pull out anymore. For example, I don't even own Van Halen now.
Roy and Bucksfan reminded me of a few others that are still in my collection, but which I haven't touched in a long time.

Allman Brothers - Live at Filmore East
Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels on a Gravel road
    Bruce - The River
U2 - Live under a blood red sky
    Dead - American Beauty

And I completely spaced Rubber Soul, my favorite Beatles Album. It's actually one that I listen to a lot lately, but mainly because my kids have a serious love for the Beatles. Smart kids, they are.

Rock itself IMO is a very broad term but there are a great deal of sub genres. I would say that both Pearl Jam and Dragonforce can be considered rock but they sound very, very different, which is why it is so hard to define "rock" music. And then adding in another concept like 80s Rock makes the overall definition of Rock very hard to clearly define. I myself prefer a more "metal" music and someone else could prefer something like Collective Soul, the band, so if you ask us both what we think defines rock, you will most likely get different answers even though both of us technically like Rock music.
