I'm gonna make a switcheroo. In my own top 40 I had Pedro Viola one spot ahead of Jeremy Horst but I'm going to flipflop them and put Horst one spot ahead of Viola. I like Viola a lot but Horst had a great season.

Yeah, and Horst has better starting pitcher potential.

I'm going with Travis Wood as my lefty though...

If I'm going with a left-handed pitcher, and I might, here's my order:
    Travis Wood
    Ismael Guillon
    Jeremy Horst
    Pedro Viola
    Mace Thurman
    Danny Ray Herrera
    Ben Jukich
    Phil Valiquette

Finally, an ally. You, me and redsof72 (if he's voting here). Plus maybe one more and whoever jumps on board.

Can somebody catch me up on Carter Morrison? I see that he was drafted out of Canada, but that's all I know. To make this list, he must have a little more going for him than the garden-variety 16th-round draft choice.

Morrison is a 5-tool outfielder who fell because of signability issues, IIRC. Baseball America seems to be pretty high on his tools.

Thanks. Maybe he can be swapped for Ryan Zimmerman.

Mace Thurman is listed at 6'2" 185 lbs., so he's got a little room to fill out. He was drafted out of Baylor in the 19th round, but he signed for about 6th round money. After the draft, he started the season at Billings, where he was lights out and quickly earned a promotion to Dayton. At Dayton, he got roughed up in a few outings, but I think part of that was bad luck resulting from a high BABIP. Overall, though, his numbers across the two leagues were excellent. He had 45 strikeouts to 14 walks in 33.1 innings pitched, and hitters hit just .171 against him. Toward the end of the year, he was pitcher of the week in the Midwest League after he threw seven scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts, no walks, and two hits allowed. One thing that I found interesting was that the Reds were stretching him out in Dayton. Instead of one-inning outings, he was throwing a lot of three-plus-inning outings. I saw him once at Dayton, and I'm no scout, but it seemed like he threw a quality fastball, changeup, and slider.

Thanks. Any idea how hard he throws?

Ive seen Thurman twice, he reminds me of a left handed Weathers, lots of junk and tries to sneak the fastball in there.

Re: Who is Redszone's #25 prospect?

Can someone make the case for Travis Wood? This is one of those times that statistics alone are letting me down. After his first two years he would have been a top five prospect. Since then, his H/9, BB/9, ERA and BAA are trending up. His K/9 is trending down. Left handers hit him better than righties. IIRC, he was a picture of inconsistency at AA. He had a couple of masterful games and some that were at best awful. Also, his low IP in 2007 suggest an injury. Did he lose something off his fastball and is now developing other pitches? At 21, did he simply move up too rapidly?

I'd like to request that David Sappelt be added soon. I'm not ready to vote for him yet, but I'd be interested to see if somebody is.
