    Unbelievable Stats - 2008

There is no other sport that is quite so consumed by statistics as baseball. Baseball numbers are analyzed, digitized, pythagorized, crunched, bunched, added, subtracted, regressed, obsessed and spun. Especially spun. We all look at them, some with a keener eye than others. And every once in a while we come across a statistic that just cannot possibly be right. But we double check to make certain, and it is. Those are the statistics that belong in this thread. The ones that makes us go ! The ones that you are going to use to impress other fans of the national pasttime. And, if you're smooth enough, they might just buy you a frosty cold beverage one day. So when you run across such a statistic from the 2008 season just post it here. It will be appreciated.

I came across such a stat this morning. It struck me as difficult to believe.

Dontrelle Willis pitched 24 innings for the Tigers in 2008. He only gave up 18 hits and struck out 18. Not too bad you might think to yourself. Then you notice his 9.38 ERA. Say what? Doesn't add up until you notice that the D-Train was giving away free boarding passes at an alarming rate. Willis walked an amazing 35 batters in those 24 innings. That works out to a jaw-dropping 13.125 BB/9!! All Aboard !!

This pobably wouldn't be called unbelievable but maybe kinda interesting.

Baltimore super stud catcher prospect Matt Wieters served as Georgia Tech's primary closer for his first two years and as one of two closers his junior season. In '05 he threw 41 IP with a sub-3 ERA.
