    Trade Idea with Yankees

I am not sure what it would take to get Cano, but I imagine Arroyo and Bailey would get the Yankees attention. They are starving for pitching.
Move Phillips to short Cano at 2nd.
    Sign Rivera/Baldelli...we have a much improved offense/defense.
I am not saying that isn't too much to give up, I just think that is what it would take to get Cano.

i understand we dont want bad contracts, but honestly we probably wont get much better without at least taking on one or two bad contracts. there are reasons people get paid a lot of money some are worth it i.e. Johan Santana some are not i.e. Barry Zito, but we are going to have to pay some money to get these power bats and improved defense we all keep asking for, you cant just wish them onto your team.

I can't think of a scenario where you get better by taking on any bad contracts. That's why they're bad. Can you justify paying the guy $27 million guaranteed over three years after the year he just had? Especially someone who plays a position that is the home of your only Gold Glove winner in 2008. There's a reason Cashman would trade Cano for a handshake and a smile.

I'm not sure these are very good ideas. I am very wary of Cano's declining numbers and his conditioning/work ethic has been in question from the get go. The Reds have had enough of those kind of players. Why trade a solid middle of the rotation starter PLUS a still viable pitching prospect for that? In addition, why move a Gold Glove 2B to a different position? Furthermore, signing Rivera or Baldelli would be exactly the kind of FA signings that have helped cripple the Reds organization for at the past decade. The Reds need players that are producing, not players that did or might.

Lets just trade Bailey, Roenicke, Frazier for Young, Sign Furcal, and we are done

    1. Furcal
    2. Phillips
    3. Votto
    4. Young
    5. Bruce
    6. Encarnacion
    7. Hernandez
    8. Dikerson

It could take $14 million per to get Furcal in Cincinnati. You sure you want that contract?

I am assuming you mean Delmon Young.

    1. Jermaine Dye is a better hitter than Young. OPS, OBP, Slug. Take your pick
-Dye's 4 year low for OPS is .804 and that year (2007) he was extremely unlucky in regards to BABIP and LD% (.268 and 19%) and as could have been suspected Dye rebounded in 2008 with a .885 OPS. Young OPSed .741 this year and was actually really lucky with regards to BABIP (.338 and 17%) so young just screams stay away from me.
    2. Jermaine Dye played better defense last year than Young.
    3. Young Played a worse LF than Adam Dunn Last year.

So I just do not understand trading more pieces for Delmon Young than Jermaine Dye. Sure Dye costs more, but it looks more and more like the reds are going to try and go for it this year and waiting for young develop (which I doubt he ever will because he has no eye at the plate and hacks at almost anything) isn't going to help the reds win in 2009.

Cano is not worth either Arroyo or Bailey, and really doesn't fill a need for the Reds.

Phillips is not moving to SS. Period. If we was going to, he would have done before the Reds signed Gonzalez and the Reds could have signed a 2B instead. The Reds are convinced that he should be at 2B and he will stay there.

Agree with thenext. The talk of moving Phillips to SS is a waste of air. He is, and will continue to be, your 2b for years to come

If it's not broke don't fix it.I would not move Phillips to shortstop or anywhere else.I also agree that his contract is not what cincy want's,leave Keppinger at ss and find the of help we need.Besides i think NewYork has thier pitching worked out,it don't include Arroyo.
