Patton, 24, and Johnston, 24, both played at high Class A Modesto this year. Patton has a power arm and had 87 strikeouts in 73 2/3 innings, while Johnston, who had 24 saves, is a strike-thrower with a good sinker. Neither would appear to be ready to pitch in the big leagues next season.
He sure is old for A+, but seemed to miss a lot of bats last season.

I was really hoping the Reds would give Matt Miller of the Rockies a chance. The Reds need the outfield depth, so I thought it would be a good target.
