    Favorite Christmas Song

As it is still early enough in the season not to have been driven completely batty by Christmmas songs, I thought it would be interesting to see what is everyone's favorite holiday song and what version of it.

For more traditional songs I have to go with the Bing Crosby/David Bowie version of "Little Drummer Boy".

For a modern song, as a Springsteen nut, I have to go with the unreleased song "Pilgrim in the Temple of Love" in which he tells the story of meeting Santa Claus in a NJ strip club.

For Christmas Eve services, I have to go with "Silent Night." Things are always so calm after leaving the church that the song resonates and always seems to bring a feeling of calm, so unlike the year I was working in a restaurant that played "Here comes Suzy Snowflake" until I was filled with rage.

    Re: Favorite Christmas Song

For traditional songs, I like O Holy Night and Silent Night. As far as newer songs, I'm fond of Mary Did You Know and Michael Card's Joseph's Song.

Love the Bowie/Crosby version of "Little Drummer Boy"

I'm also a big fan of Band Aid's "Do They Know it's Christmas" from 1984
More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that's not only better, but also more directly involves me.

    Re: Favorite Christmas Song

Of course my all-time favorites come from my early childhood (early 60's) and my Dad's collection.

I bought this CD because I enjoyed it so much....

But I enjoy listening to practically any Christmas song from the 50s and 60's, from Nat King Cole, Burl Ives, Percy Faith, Dean Martin, etc.

But one of my favorite songs going back to childhood (again drawing on childhood memories) is Andre Kostelanetz' Sleigh Ride

Anything Bing Crosby and Andy Williams. These two just evoke fond memories of waking up Christmas morning.
    Witty signature.

Holy crap, paint. That song and that version is my favorite Christmas song ever. No joke.

There are others that are better and/or more beautiful, but something about that one really gets to me. I love that whole album, but that's my all-time favorite.

Thanks for posting the video. I hadn't seen it since I was a kid.
