I went with Manuel, the AA reliever of the year.

When the AA reliever of the year is your ~#31 prospect, and your 15th pitching prospect, your system is pretty good.

Sean Watson. In my mind has to have a good year to stay above water.

Re: Who is Redszone's #31 prospect?

So why don't Sean Watson and Jordan Smith get votes?

In the case of Watson, it's his numbers. He just hasn't performed up to his enormous capabilities, largely due to high walk totals. But last year at AA he did fan 45 in 35 innings and opponents had a .214 BA against him. Overall, at two levels, he fanned 75 in 55 relief innings last season. Too many walks, but he's clearly a high level prospect with significantly more upside than some who are being selected in this poll. Still only 23 years old.

In the case of Smith, it's lack of hype. He just hasn't caught the fancy of the opinion leaders around here. But if Travis Wood is #25, then Smith should be 24 of maybe 26. Personally, I have him even higher. But no way is his ranking as low as in the poll.

Smith, still only 22, blew away High A ball with 7-2 and a 2.55 ERA. He struggled at AA as did Wood, although Smith had a 5 plus ERA, Wood a 7 plus ERA, at Chat.

Wood is a year younger and apparently has a very good change up. But he's a 5'11" pitcher. Smith is 6'4" - a projectable pitcher's frame as they say -- and he throws ground balls. Smith had a 1.72 GO/FO ratio last year and 2007 was similar. Smith has always walked relatively few and had low WHIPs until his AA stint.

Re: Who is Redszone's #31 prospect?

Smith got my vote, though Manuel and Henry make sense. Seems to me Smith did very well at his age appropriate level, he's a starter, and as KC points out, is a ground ball pitcher with classic pitcher's frame. What's not to like as the 31st guy in the org.?
