    Moorad will apparently buy Padres

Jeff Moorad has resigned as Arizona Diamondbacks chief executive officer and says he has reached an agreement in principle to buy the San Diego Padres.

Will that take Peavy off of the market and possibly expand the Pads budget?

Depends on how deep Moorad's partners' pockets are, as well as their goals. If they want to win now, they'll find a way to keep Peavy. If they want to rein in their budget during the recession and boost the payroll when they see a boost in revenue, they'll continue to look for a deal for him.

In any case, I look for a swift approval to new ownership there. The other MLB owners are probably quite fearful of a club having to open its finances to the scrutiny of a divorce attorney.
