G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

There is supposed to be a trailer for this during the Super Bowl tonight. You can download the trailer here. Dennis Quaid stars as Hawk. I really loved GI Joe when I was a kid. I was hoping this was going to be done really well, but after seeing the trailer, I'm pretty sure it won't be. I'm sure I'll still go see it though.

I wish I could whip out the "nerd alert" tag I had before Boss-Hog nixed it.

I'd place myself squarely and proudly within this group of nerds. I had all my old G.I. Joe stuff from the early 1980's until ebaying them off recently.

I agree RS, the trailer doesn't look promising.

The Baroness looks yummy. Evil and yummy.

My wife doesn't know it, but if our first born is a boy, we're naming him Destro.

Michael Bay isn't attached to this somehow, is he?
My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!

I liked GI Joe as much as the next guy, but no one really thought that a GI Joe movie would be the next Apocalypse Now did they?

No one said that. I would have liked it to be on par with the last two Batman movies.

What a difference involvement by Spielberg makes (Transfromers).

Still, this looks pretty mindless and fun. The Baroness looks hot, and I'm interested to see the Doctor as Destro.

Re: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

My favorite two characters were Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes. The little bit they showed of them looked a bit cheesy. If they can pull off a Transformers with a good story, good acting, humor and a couple of hot babes this should be huge. If it's just mindless CGI and explosions it will be fun and quickly forgotten.

My only foray into comic books was the GI Joe Series. My favorite issue was the backstory on Storm Shadow and Snake eyes. How they were in the same unit in Viet Nam (with Stalker) , are/were friends and their lives before GI Joe/Cobra. Dang...I might have to go dig that one out of the storage closet.

I just watched the trailer at the link you've provided. Wish I could see more to make an informed decision. If it was one of the commercials last night, I missed it.

People, we are all missing the most important question here: Will Scarlet, Lady Jaye and The Barroness be having any pillow fights? That's what enquiring minds want to know.

Okay, now I've pretty much been laughed out of the room by every person I've brought this up to but...

I've always asserted that GI Joe was not part of the millitary. More like a seperate pseudo government agency that was out to thwart evil.

I don't know any of the comic book stories or anything, just going off of the cartoons.
