    Elmer signs!

In the biggest news of the offseason, former Red Elmer Dessens has signed a minor league contract with the NY Mets, according to the Denver Post.

Why the Denver Post was able to scoop the world on this is anyone's guess.

A bonafide ace in any rotation.

What did Dessens do last season. I see him in four games for the Braves in August and September, but no minor league stats in 2008.

I'll say for Dessens, the Mets are not a bad organization to try for another shot.

I once had a three game streak, split between going to Reds and Louisville Bats games, where Elmer pitched. That was a special time in my life.

He pitched in Mexico, I believe.

Ah yes, you're right. I should have Googled it. Here's was was on mlbtraderumors.com from last August:

According to MLB.com's Mark Bowman, the Braves signed 37 year-old righty Elmer Dessens to join their rotation for September. Dessens posted a 4.03 ERA and 3.0 K/BB ratio in 105 innings in the Triple A Mexican League.

Dessens had been released by the Pirates in spring due to a back injury.
