Andrew Means at NFL Draft Combine

Is this a sign that we are going to lose him? I just saw him run his 40 yard dash in 4.44 and 4.46. I thought he was going to be a baseball player. Doug or others, any insight on this?
The Sox traded Bullfrog the only player they've got for Shottenhoffen. Four-eyes Shottenhoffen a utility infielder. They've got a whole team of utility infielders.

In his interviews, he's promised to play football, if

there's assurance of being drafted, which after his pre-workouts, and what he's done so far today, is more and more likely to be a reality.

I've watched him play both football and baseball and thought he was a guy that if he concentrated on one of the other, could be very good at it. In an interview, he said football was his first love and he grew up next door to Anthony Gonzalez (Indy Colts WR) and patterned his game after him, which is very true.

I think he's probably NFL bound, but a lot can change between now and April.

Always good to have options. They talked about him a little bit on Sportscenter this morning.

Andrew didn't get picked so it should be interesting to see if he chooses to come back to baseball or try to go the nfl free agent route

Does he get some sort of benefits just by signing an NFL contract? If so, I'd try the NFL route first, and if it doesn't work out, I'd come back to baseball. It'd be a nice way of picking up two signing bonuses.

    From Lance's blog:

    Things I'm told
Here's an update on Reds minor league OF/former Indiana WR Andrew Means
"Andrew Means will be returning to the Reds on Wednesday, April 29th...While Andrew is disappointed that he did not get drafted in the NFL Draft (he did received 9 free agent contract offers Sunday evening) he is excited to rejoin the Reds and pursue his goal of playing in Cincinnati in the future. I cannot thank the Reds Organization enough for how fair and accommodating they have been throughout this entire process."

I'm glad he's still around. You have to like his potential.

You would expect him to spend 2-3 weeks in extended to shake off the rust, get his timing at the plate, and then join the Dayton club, which could surely use some help.

    Dragon tales

Dayton, Ohio----The Dayton Dragons announced the following roster moves today:
Outfielder Andrew Means has been assigned to Dayton from the Cincinnati Reds extended spring training camp in Sarasota, Florida.

Outfielder Tyler Stovall has been sent from Dayton to extended spring training.
Means, a product of Avon Lake High School (Loraine, Ohio) and Indiana University, is in his second season in the Reds organization after being selected in the 11th round of the 2008 draft.

A two-sport star in college, Means has not played in an official game this season as he concentrated on preparing for the National Football League draft in April. After not being selected in the draft, Means reported to extended spring training with the Reds. He also participated in a portion of spring training in March.

Means played in 22 games at Billings (Reds Rookie-level affiliate in the Pioneer League) in 2008, batting .231 with three home runs, 16 runs batted in, and six stolen bases. At Indiana University in the spring of 2008, Means batted .357 with two homers, 32 RBI, and 33 stolen bases. He led the Big Ten Conference in runs scored and was third in stolen bases.

Means was a starting wide receiver at I.U. and caught 102 passes for 1,272 yards during his college career. He declared for the 2009 NFL Draft following his junior year at Indiana. Means helped Avon Lake to the football state championship and 15-0 record as a junior in 2004.
Stovall appeared in 18 games for the Dragons and batted .164 with one homer and four runs batted in. He is a native of Loveland, Ohio.

I bet he has some serious defensive anticipation when the ball is in the air.
