make sure you test the chemistry of the water before adding the betta. odds are he's well adjusted to the conditions in his cup, so add the cup water to the tank bowl. i just screwed up and forgot to test the alkalinity and hardness of water before putting betta in the tank and i pretty much just watched him die in the last hour. hard water and high alkalinity are very, very bad. while hardy, those two are the worst for bettas.
