And I must say, pretty impressive 2-5 hitters for Canada with Russell Martin, Votto, Justin Morneau and Jason Bay. Doesn't get much better than that.
Here comes Votto with one on and one out in the first. Peavy is the starting pitcher for Team USA. Martin just walked.
Nice, Votto laces a single into center and Russell goes to third. (I'm rooting for Team USA, but I'm also rooting for my boy!)
1-0 Canada. Ground out RBI for Morneau.
Yep, I agree. I've never agreed with the "can't assume a double play" rule in baseball official scoring. Why can't we assume a double play when the ball is hit at the SS, he boots an obvious DP ball and they only get one out? That should be ruled an error!
Man they are so many old, crusty baseball scoring rules that make no sense. Another one is "if it doesn't hit the OF's glove, it's not an error." Why not??? If a Major League Baseball outfielder misjudges a routine fly ball and lets it drop in, that should be an error! Too many times these games are scored like a mom would do the scoring at a Little League game. "Oh, I don't want to give Billy an error there, he tried really hard. We'll call that one a base hit."
Fun vociferous crowd supporting Canada in the game against the US. Huge roar when Chipper was punched out on a 3-2 hook.
This USA team isn't really that great. I mean, of course they are good, but nothing that really jumps out at you IMO.
I mean, I know he had a huge year last year, but Kevin Youkilis is really the best we can do as the starting first baseman of Team USA? (Sorry to question a guy from Cincinnati, I like Youk, I just think he overachieved last season.)
Dunn sighting
Peavy just can't handle Votto. ;-)
Deep HR for Joey!!! 2-1 Canada in the top of the third.
Get ready to play left Joey, because we need your bat in the lineup, and Yonder can't play anywhere but first. (Well, he COULD play third, but he won't at the MLB level.)
I love Votto too. I think he's going to be a good/very good hitter throughout his career. Love his approach, his swing, everything about him as a hitter.
Holy crap that was a bomb.
"I know a lot about the law and various other lawyerings."
Hitters who avoid outs are the funnest.
Votto goes boom.
