"Respect" in the World Baseball Classic

I really, really, really hate seeing Jimmy Rollins taken out for Derek Jeter. Rollins had been all over the place making plays that Jeter could never hope to convert and he was gangbusters at the plate.

Jeter was the team's best hitter yesterday next to Dunn. Really nothing to complain about.

    Meanwhile, we're up 6-3.

I agreed with Sutt that they should've DHed Jeter today, but taking out your most important defensive player is lunacy, sorry.

Granderson is the teams best defensive player, but I agree with your point.

Notice I changed it from "best" to "most important." Agree that Curtis is better, but I think SS is slightly more important. JMO.

I love seeing a lineup full of patient hitters who force the pitcher to come to them eventually. Not many hackers in this lineup. Beautiful.

Hernandez looks like a statue behind the plate. My guess is that Hanigan will be the better player.

Hopefully he can hit like crazy this year. Get a nice GABP boost.

I dont see that. The Venezuelan pitchers are everywhere, mostly opposite of where Ramon is setting up. I think he is doing a good job.

It is definitely nice to hear announcers describe plate discipline as a positive thing.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Yup, the USA lineup did exactly what they needed to do. Be patient, take pitches, take walks, get on base, and drive up the pitch counts of the better pitchers in order to get into the middle bullpen arms where they can do some serious damage.

Honestly, if the USA pitchers can get to regular season form - Peavy and Oswalt clearly are not there yet - then they'll be tough to beat.

Do you think they tried to get Lincecum for their team?
