It's a simple question. For those of you who feel that this team should be improved from last year, what do you think would be a tangible improvement record-wise?
Getting excited over anything less than a better-than .500 seaon reeks of Bengaldom, IMO.

Anything less than the playoffs and I won't be happy. I don't see it happening so I just hope to see the the young guys take a step forward.

I have a platform and a message, and now I go to bed at night, sober and happy, praying I can be a good messenger." -Josh Hamilton
Every season since 2003 there have been plenty of Reds Fans saying "This organization is moving in the right direction" and "This could be The Year".
IMO the Reds as an organization have improved the starting pitching over what was an empty cupboard.
Other than that they have been pretty much running in place.
True. But when I say moving in the right direction, I mean on the field. I think this franchise has been moving in the right direction for a good while in regards to some other things, particulary the minor league system. But I want to see it translate on the field this year, or else it's a disappointment IMO. I'm not expecting playoffs. But I would like to see more than a flirt with .500.
IMO, they have largely moved backwards since 2003. Sure, the rotation is better, but at a pretty extreme cost. In any event, this dream rotation isn't translating into a better team W-L record.
I mean, the best year since 2003 has been 2006, when we had the illusionary contending year, despite being below .500.. A lot went well that year. We had a nice core of position players, compounded with Wayne's big gems of Arroyo and Philllips.
Things have pretty much gone continually downhill since then. Since "the trade", the only really big positives have been Hamilton/Volquez and the arrival of Votto. I'm pretty sure eventually Ceuto and Bruce will be nice sucess stories, but up until this point, they really haven't helped the bottom line of W-L.
Every franchise loses a little bit of its talent base every year due to attrition or the aging of players. The Reds have failed to compensate for this, despite some good moves over the past 6-10 years.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

I'll take .500 or maybe 84 wins. Any more is just wishful thinking. I am ecstatic that they finally have a rotation that is not cobbled together with spare parts, AAAA journeymen and young prospects who aren't ready yet. But they also lost a lot of games last year by being atrocious defenders and I am still not certain where the run production will come from. Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled with the position they are in because it marks real progress, but I won't fret if they don't over achieve.
Next Reds manager, second shooter. --Confirmed on Redszone.
Winning season.
Good stepping stone...show progress, but proves what we all know...they're not quite there yet.
Winning it all would be fine too
More cowbell... way more cowbell. What would be an improvement?

I'm greedy. Over .500 or bust.

I want to see 81 or more wins, and I believe that would be an indicator in improvement of the team and team product for the fans.
I feel strongly after reading Redszone for many years and having to realize that many of you really do invest a great deal of your time and money in the organization from love and loyalty, that those additional wins are needed and deserved by the Reds fans who never seem to give up on them.
