College junior hits 101 on radar gun

He has Boras as an agent. So that basically means only the Yankees will be able to afford him.

Here is the stat that grabbed me:
In 210 innings of college and international competition since 2006, he’s walked only 45 batters while striking out 316.

He really needs a catcher that can catch his curve (the one he's got currently appears to miss every one he throws.) No doubt he throws lightening but he's definitely going to need some coaching on the control, right now his dominance is dependent on his speed. I'm sure he'd get that at the next level, someone will definitely spend the money on a 20 year old throwing 101 consistently that has hit 103 in the past.

I would let someone else take that risk. 21 years old who 2 years ago could only hit the low 90's and now throws 103+ screams arm trouble.

How does he already have an agent if he's still in college?

I agree, btw - arm blowout waiting to happen.

Thing is though...even at 101mph, MLB hitters will tee off on him if that is the only pitch he can control.

The article says he has a nice breaking ball that moves like a curve but has the velocity of a slider.

Based on the video that was in the article, he does indeed have a nasty breaking ball that winds up in the dirt every time he throws it after crossing the plate in the zone. However, his fastball appeared to miss target often and drifted up a lot. Sure it's good enough for college, but those pitches would be HRs in the bigs. Granted, control is something that can be taught while a 103mph fastball is not.

Good thing he has a nearly unhittable 94 mph slider. I forgot to mention he has a great change-up too.

There is a reason why this kid has 74Ks in 34 innings (7 walks) and it is not just the fastball.
