    Javy is a free agent

Catcher Javier Valentin declined a minor league assignment and became a free agent. I post this because the candidates for the Reds LH bench bat are so bad.

John Fay reports on his blog that Javy is visiting the Reds and "chatting up" Dusty...

"Javy Valentin is watching the Reds take BP and chatting up Dusty Baker.

He's on my top 5 of favorite Reds. Great guy. Ill-suited for his role last year."

What's that role? Major league player?

    Pass quickly.

No, thanks. If that's what the Reds are looking for, I think it makes more sense to bring back Daryle Ward.

Chip, I know you've orchestrated this Dusty and Javy meeting. Stop the madness!

We most move foward, not backwards. Upward, not downward. And always twirling, twirling, twirling towards...not having Javy.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

This is the epitome of the state of the Reds.

    Epic fail.

We do not need 3 catchers. Could use another 3rd baseman though

Bringing back Javy would just about top things off.

"Hey, Dusty? Remember when you would play me at 3b and bat me 5th? Those were good times. Let's do that again.

The Reds should trade Votto to the Dodgers for Castro. Javy & Castro will bring a title to Cincy!

I don't mind being in the minority...sometimes.... he ain't a bad lefty to have off the bench....with the catchers "we" have he wouldn't figure to see any time behind the plate anyway.

Re: Javy is a free agent

I watched Javy strikeout the other night while on MLB TV. Really awful approach. I used to not have much against Javy when he was hunkered down and taking some good swings. (That was at least 3 years ago.) Somewhere along the way he decided he was going to be a PH HR specialist. His swing is now LONGER than when he was here. I wasn't sure that was possible.

The three longest swings I have seen in person are Terrance Long, Pete Rose Jr., and Javy Valentin.

The most impressive bat that I have had the great fortune to watch (On TV) has been Chris Davis of the Rangers. Great plate coverage, Oppo power, awesome bat speed. Looking forward to watching him in an already potent lineup.
It's absolutely pathetic that people can't have an opinion from actually watching games and supplementing that with stats. If you voice an opinion that doesn't fit into a black/white box you will get completely misrepresented and basically called a tobacco chewing traditionalist...
