Cabrera- the dual eligibility allows more flexibility later in the draft.
Depends on your league setup. IF you start more than 3 outfielders than you may want to take one of them instead. If you only start 3 outfielders you can't really go wrong with any of them but Dom has a valid point. Since he can play both 1st and 3rd Cabrera allows you to wait an extra round or two on another corner infielder to see if one will drop.

I have been taking Sizemore with the fifth pick because I love those power/speed combos...
cannot believe that Pujols fell to me.
In regards to Pujols: How is it that people let a guy that slugs .600 with an OBP of .450 fall? The guy is the perfect hitter, and people take Jose Reyes ahead of him.
If you are in a league where Jose Reyes is more valuable than Albert Pujols, you should drop out now and get a real scoring system.
I'm convinced that 5x5 leagues are the ruin of mankind.
I had one of my points league teams ask me the other day, "Can we give more points for stolen base specialists like Michael Bourne and Willy Taveras?" Ugh.
It was created when EBH were in decline and SB up. We do Rate stats in my league... and I drafted Albert, second after Hanley.I'm convinced that 5x5 leagues are the ruin of mankind.
Don't be surprised if in 5 years the 5x5 seem a tad more relevant than current times. Ebb and flow, ebb and flow.
Moot point now, but third base is so thin this year that I like Miggy anyway. Grady is one of my favorite players, but I passed on him to take Cabrera at 7. I could name 30 outfielders I wouldn't mind having. There are three or four third baseman, if that, and one doesn't even play there anymore (Cabrera). Unless you believe Baseball Prospectus' projection for Edwin, then maybe there's 5 or 6.IF you start more than 3 outfielders than you may want to take one of them instead. If you only start 3 outfielders you can't really go wrong with any of them
The idiot behind me took Rollins with Sizemore still on the board, and then the guy who had Sizemore grabbed Utley on the way back.
I could have smacked that dude.
I guess that could happen, but with these stadiums, and pitching being at a premium, I can't imagine runs being that scarce. Then again, for about a week, I believed the hype of Howie Kendrick winning a batting title at some point, so what do I know. For a week- and then I saw that walk and K rate and then I realized that guys days are numbered in this league.Don't be surprised if in 5 years the 5x5 seem a tad more relevant than current times. Ebb and flow, ebb and flow.
Anyhoo- you could be right, I hope you aren't. 1980s Cardinals baseball is not something I want to relive.
I see why Hanley goes that high, but in our league Pujols is worth 150 points more than most hitters. It varies from league to league, but geesh, to hit 30 plus home runs and strike out under 60 times a year with 100 walks. Oh lordy, that man can hit a baseball.and I drafted Albert, second after Hanley.

My first five picks: Pujols, Lincecum, Johan, Bay and Ellsbury. Also got Dunn later as I needed power.
I'm kicking myself for not taking Manny over Lincecum. I thought that the top pitchers (Lincecum, Johan and CC) would have been gone before I got my 3rd pick. But when it was time, I couldn't pass up those first 3 picks. Crazy.
Oh man- Lincecum should provide more value at that pick than Manny. While I think Manny does better than his BP projection, he isn't anywhere as far ahead of the others at his position than Tiny Tim is.
Of course, it all depends on your scoring system. Mine thankfully does not score wins, which makes him all the more valuable.
I wouldn't compare Manny to Lincecum. I would compare Manny to OFs taken later and look at Lincecum versus SPs taken later.
The next SP I took was Lester in the 9th, then Zambrano/Harang in the 14/15th rds. There was good pitching left later while hitting was snagged early.
But I'm not really complaining about my rotation.
edabbs44, Can you post the rest of your team?
Manny Ramirez is not a second round pick. Lincecum is a borderline first rounder.I wouldn't compare Manny to Lincecum.
You got good value.
x2
He took Linc in the 2nd and Johan Santana in the 3rd. I wouln't be that surprised by Linc being available in the 2nd but, Imo, Johan shouldn't fall into the 3rd. He later took Lester in the 9th, then Zambrano/Harang in the 14/15th rds so I'm a little curious about his hitters.
