    Marlins Release Dallas McPherson

just curious.. McPherson, 28, hit .275/.379/.618 with 42 home runs in 448 at-bats last year at Triple A. he could be a huge bat off the bench, and maybe squeeze Edwin, if Edwin doesnt hit.. and i wonder how many homers he would hit in our park??

I was always a fan of this guy for what reason I'm not sure. Seems like a prime candidate to put it together and have a big season. I'd like to see the Reds at least take a flyer on him and inquire.

Signing this guy would be another reason to believe in to the Reds front office on making the Reds a better team in the future.Another young player with plenty of upside is a no brainer.Get him in a Reds uniform!!

Get him. Way better LH bat than Laynce Nix.

The Marlins don't have many misses with guys like this, but considering it would cost nothing to get him it couldn't hurt.

Seems like a really good guy to have on the bench. What am I missing here? Why did the Fish let go of him?

McPherson isn't young (this is his age 28 season) and he darn well should've tore up the PCL on his fourth tour through at age 27. That said he struck out 168 times in just 524 PAs in AAA last season. He's not a "prospect" any longer but he could be a useful role guy for the Reds.

As part of the expansion agreement that created the Marlins, the Marlins are required to release all players on or before their 29th birthday unless they are going to go to the World Series that year. It is a little known clause but has had great implications for the Franchise. The agreement also allows for the clause to expire upon the completion of construction of a dedicated baseball stadium.

    Dallas McPherson > Brandon Larson?

I'm not opposed to signing him to a minor league contract, but the guy has been given plenty of opportunity to show that he can hit Major League pitching, and he has yet to capitalize.

Seems to me Dallas McPherson is another one of those mythical AAAA poster boys that did well at times in AAA but can't get it done in the Majors. Pass.
