Yeah if Jodie was assured to be chosen in the first round I would definitely recommend that he remain in the draft.

However, I see him going undrafted as often as he goes in the 2nd round in most every mock.

Agreed. If he's projected to be a 2nd rounder, he should return to UK.

Very disappointing loss. I thought they had them.

Do we play IU in Bloomington next season or is it in Rupp?

Re: 2009 UK Basketball Thread - Part III

I think he'll be drafted, as his athelticism is top-rate and his quick release and range make him valuable now, not to mention the ability to get better later. He's an old Dale Ellis at this point, or, if you're not quite that old school, Brent Barry with lateral quickness.

But that's not usually what sells in the first round.

The question is whether Meeks wants to go First Round (pride) or play his way into the league (hard work). It's unguaranteed money v. unguaranteed NCAA success. It's another year of Beenie Weenies v. a lifetime of filet mignon.

It's reward now v. reward in a year. Maybe.

And that's a tough decision for anyone, let alone someone who has to determine a future wherein millions of dollars could be at stake.

Personally, I'd go now, regardless of draft position. If undrafted, Meeks should pick a team with older starters at shooting guard or small forward and be willing to sit the bench. A stronger team with established starters may be best for now. Then, over the course of a couple years, he can work on his game (his handle is weak for a guard and his court awareness could also use work), perservere, and become an effective weapon for a team that needs instant offense off the bench.

If he's drafted, though, he's stuck with that team and no guarantees.

    Tough call.

It was at Rupp last season so they should be in Bloomington next season.

That's where I think he'll ultimately find himself and I agree he should definitely return to Kentucky if that is the draft position that the NBA committee projects for him.

Cal will improve his game in the three areas that need it the most: ball handling, decision-making, and the ability to attack/finish at the rim.

Improving those areas rather than trying to hook up with and hang onto the bench of some NBA squad will give him the ability to STICK in the NBA once he reaches it.

I might try to go to that game.

I've always wanted to see Assembly Hall.

Nope. Never had the chance when I lived back there. I've only been to two college basketball games in my lifetime, both times were at Freedom Hall. And that was only because I had free tickets.

If Jodie returns, he COULD be a lottery pick with a year under Cal.

I bet he'd get drafted after Xavier Henry though.

Cool. Anyone who has, please chime in and talk about what it's like.
