The problem when you micro-manage your program the way all these top guys do is that when something happens, it's your fault. It doesn't matter if you knew about it, didn't know about it, whatever. It's got your hands on it.
Derrick Rose' brother didn't pay for two trips on the team plane, not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it looks shady.
It's possible that he didn't know about Derrick Rose (allegedly) cheating on his SAT. It's possible but unlikely and in the end it all is on him anyway.
On a non-Calipari note, the legal battle could get messy with Gillispie and UKAA.

You know how you know you are a lawyer…when you are much more interested in the Billy Clyde lawsuit than the Calipari story. I will have much more on Clyde and his Texas two-step of a case (simple answer: has a decent legal argument, is committing professional suicide), but first, lets meet Demetrios Anaipakos, Billy Clyde’s attorney! When I saw that Clyde had hired Anaipakos, I called a friend in Houston who told me “Demetrios is one of the best trial lawyers in the city. You hire him when you are ready to fight and you think it is going to get dirty.” That tells me all I need to know. Here is the Anaipakos file:
Demetrios Anaipakos has rapidly become recognized as one of the most aggressive, young trial lawyers in Texas. As early as 1999, Mr. Anaipakos was profiled in a lengthy article in the Daily Court Review as a “Houston trial lawyer leaving his mark.” Since then, Mr. Anaipakos’ high-profile cases and courtroom victories have attracted local, state wide, and national attention. Mr. Anaipakos has appeared in the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Houston Chronicle, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, Businessweek, the USA Today, the National Law Journal, the Texas Lawyer, and many other national and international periodicals. He has also appeared as a guest on Good Morning America, the CBS Early Show, the NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, Moneyline with Lou Dobbs, Energy News Live, the BBC, as well as on several local and regional newscasts.
Mr. Anaipakos represents Plaintiffs and Defendants in complex commercial cases, high-stakes employment matters, as well as catastrophic personal injury claims. Mr. Anaipakos has tried cases in both state and federal courts and has been counsel in several significant cases involving allegations of damages into the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Born in El Paso, Texas, Mr. Anaipakos graduated from Stanford University with an A.B. in Political Science and from Stanford Law School with a J.D. where he was an Associate Editor of the Stanford Law Review. After graduating from law school, Mr. Anaipakos clerked for the Honorable Edith H. Jones of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Mr. Anaipakos then began actively practicing trial law at Vinson & Elkins, L.L.P. where he represented plaintiffs and defendants in complex commercial disputes as well as in significant tort cases. In March of 2000, Mr. Anaipakos joined an aggressive litigation boutique, Ahmad & Zavitsanos, and the Firm’s name was changed to Ahmad, Zavitsanos & Anaipakos, P.C.
Hey he has been on Lou Dobbs! Seriously though, that is an impressive resume. The Judge he clerked for, Edith Jones, was considered for the Supreme Court under George W. Bush and is a one stop shop for the brightest far right-wing clerks in the country. People who make the cut for her are usually very conservative and also very intelligent. Anaipakos has a reputation as one of the best litigation lawyers in Texas and from what I understand is also one of the most expensive. That means to me that Billy Clyde has decided to “cowboy up” and bring the big stick for this fight.
Already today, Anaipakos has been on the radio talking about the case:

All of this tells me that Billy Clyde intends to make this a messy fight. He has hired an extremely intelligent attorney, who has filed a 24 page Complaint (more on that later) and who is media savvy at fighting the public relations war. From a legal perspective, I think he has a decent case. But to me, this entire process will have severe ramifications on his future employment prospects. But either way, standing by his side during the entire process, playing the role of legal and spiritual advisor to the stars will be Demetrios Anaipakos, the new most famous attorney in Kentucky and one that is ready to stand up for all things Billy Clyde.
You can defend Calipari all you like, but yet another program that he left is under investigation and could be on probation. That isn't good.
And if you think he knew nothing at all about Camby, or about any of the stuff at Memphis, there is a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.
I don't think Billy Clyde is commiting professional suicide. He has a case, and it's not like he did anything illegal or violate NCAA rules. He was forced out because of temperment and an irrational fan base. Most other school probably won't give a crap, to be honest.
Can UK not prove that BG was fired with cause? I am thinking they could.
When all is said and done more is said than done.
The Gillispie legal wranglings are going to be fascinating to observe.
