Is it just me or should Cozart be skyrocketing up prospect lists right now?

If he keeps hitting like he is now, definitely. He's a legit plus defender from what I've read.

Danny Richar walks. Louisville has the bases loaded and only one out for Adam Rosales.

Re: Saturday 4/11/09 Minor League updates

It's very early in the season, but you have to be pleased with the way Zach Cozart is hitting right now. Through three games, he's 6-for-12 with a double, two walks, and only one strikeout. He was also robbed of a homer last night by the left fielder or else his numbers would look even better. Cozart, IMO, is one of the most important prospects in the Reds system. He's a plus defender at shortstop, the question is whether he will hit enough to be an everyday player at the big league level.

Last season he hit .280/.330/.457 - .787 in Low-A Dayton. His power developed nicely as he had 40 extra-base hits (14 homers) in 418 atbats and slugged .457. However, his plate discipline was below average, as he posted a 24 BB/77 K ratio in 418 atbats. Improving his plate discipline would go a long way toward helping him develop into a better hitter. So far, he's off to a positive start with two walks and only one strikeout in 14 plate appearances. Let's hope he continues that.

If he has a big season in Double-A (.800+ OPS), I think there's a chance he could get an invite to spring training in 2010 with a chance at making the roster, unless the Reds acquire a young shortstop.

he was a number 3 hitter on his college team, so I suspect he will be nails as he gets more experience

Heisey produces to little notice, per usual. Best leadoff prospect in the system.
