The plate is 17" wide. Divide it into half and throw to one-half of the half plus the quadrent of the hitter. Those guys are good enough to do that. Even if their stuff moves off the plate it's good enough that most hitters won't hit it. Key idea: you don't have to hit the black every time---just as a tennis player doesn't have to hit the lines to win a point.

And that's how I'd explain it.

Double steal, and ball was soft lined to SS. Runners had no chance.

Is it really a baserunning snafu or just a unfortunately placed hit? Did anybody goof up in the double steal?

No, no snafu. Simply bad luck.

Yep, just poor luck. Can't blame Dusty for that one either. It was actually a nice time to try one IMO.

The reds couldn't steal bases even if the bases could walk over to them.

Not sure this was bad baserunning. Just this team's new strategy. It was agressive baserunning with both runners moving before the pitch. A soft liner to SS and the triple plauy was a certainty. If the runners aren't going on the pitch, its one out.

That's my big problem with building an offense around the running game. Getting on base is hard enough. When you avoid making an out, why give the defense a second chance to get you on the bases?
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!
