Re: This Date In Reds History (4/16/09): Past Lineups

Five years ago (2004), an 11-10 loss at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

    WP: Joe Borowski (1-0)

HR: CIN - D'Angelo Jimenez (1), Ken Griffey Jr. (3), Wily Mo Peņa (1). CHI - Moises Alou 2 (5), Aramis Ramirez (4), Todd Hollandsworth (3), Sammy Sosa (2).

Reds manager Dave Miley was ejected in the top of the fourth inning by home plate umpire C.B. Bucknor for arguing a strike call against Sean Casey. In the top of the seventh inning, Cubs manager Dusty Baker intended to make a double switch, but failed to notify the umpire. The Reds protested in the bottom of the inning that the Cubs were batting out of order, and Cubs reliever Kent Mercker, who should have been batting, was ruled out. Baker argued with Bucknor, and threw his lineup card to the ground, which got him ejected. Baker then threw a Piniella-like tantrum, throwing his hat in the dirt twice, and kicking items in the on-deck circle. Reds reliever Danny Graves came on in the bottom of the ninth to preserve a 10-9 Reds lead, and promptly gave up game-winning back-to-back homers to the first two batters he faced--Sammy Sosa and Moises Alou.
