I had no idea the Reds were using Stewart as a starter this season.

It's probably not a full time move. I think it's just an effort to get him more innings and help develop his secondary stuff. It wouldn't surprise me if you see him in the Carolina bullpen by June.

someone said that the Reds are concerned about his ability to be effective two days in a row. I don't know if that's true, but if so then this is a full time move.

    No score after three innings.

Alonso and Soto are ice cold at the plate right now.

Yeah, I've been following their stats. They are probably the main guys I will follow this year.

I'd love to see Stewart develop as a starter. After Cueto and Volquez, and possibly Bailey, Reds don't have that many blue chip starting pitching prospects. Maybe Lotzkar, if he's healthy, but most others seem to be back of rotation guys. Stewart would be very valuable if he can develop as a starter.

I heard Thom Brenneman say on the final pre-season game the Reds were making him a starter

Stewart's move to the rotation is indeed temporary. The Reds are doing it in order for him to develop his secondary offerings in a quicker fashion. OBM had it right.

What if he keeps dominating like right now though? Any chance they'll give it a shot considering there's not a whole lot of upper end starting pitching in the minors right now.
