He's been hitting the ball very hard. He's been showing a TON of patience at the plate. And he doesn't appear to be looking for the HR but rather just to make contact. IMO that's a VERY good change in approach.

When did Valverde become a Latin version of Eric Gagne? They shop at the same eyeglasses store.

In the NL, the Reds offense is....

    14th in runs, B/A,
16th in hits, total bases, SLG%
    15th in OPS

Hitters who avoid outs are the funnest.

He's pressing...big time. He's trying to force himself out of his slump. That ain't gonna work.

I'd pinch hit with Nix here. Hernandez is a doubleplay waiting to happen.

Yet Oswalt only pitched 6...and still has a slightly higher era than Cueto

Cueto's a young #4, I'll give him some slack, if the Reds had a 2 run lead maybe he stays in an finishes it out.

I do know that 0 runs won't win you any games, so I'm not sure what all the hub-bub is about.

he lacked plate discipline coming up ... now he has reached the level where talent can't overcome it and the pitchers are good enough to exploit it
