I try and read these threads every night, but I don't remember hearing anything about Ramon Ramirez this year. OBM? Doug? Has he been pitching or is he hurt?
I took Avery off my prospect list a while back and have seen nothing to indicate he should be back on.
I know the line's been that Avery plays out better as a reliever, but the Reds have been very persistent in keeping him as a starter. Today he goes 8, which is, and please correct me if I'm wrong, the longest any Reds farmhand has gone so far this year. Looks to me like somebody sees something in this guy as a starter.
Doug, what's the word on the new 3rd baseman for the Dragons (Mendez)? He's hit very well since getting the call from extended spring training. That Dayton lineup badly needed some punch, and he seems to have a little.
Solid plate approach, but he has never done anything special (never had an OPS over .675 in the minors on US soil). He is 22 at this point and has a solid approach, so he should be able to be solid in Dayton, but he isn't a prospect at this point and its not likely he really becomes one. He should help the Dragons out some.
After today, Zach Cozart is now hitting .338/.420/.493 - .913 OPS with eight extra-base hits in 71 atbats. 9 BB/8 K. Very impressive. The Reds desperately need some up the middle players, so it's good to see guys like Cozart and Heisey playing so well.
Dayton is scoreless through 4 1/2 innings in the first game of the doubleheader.
