Coming from a family involved heavily with media, I can say with absolute certainty that it's a cruel, cruel business to be involved with.
Traditional, local media is dying a slow death.

Nope -- with rare exception (a small minority of the on-air talent), every person is viewed as completely expendable.
In radio, a format flip costs dozens of people their jobs overnight. In TV, a college kid gets hired at half cost to produce and someone else is shown the door. Same story everywhere in the country in markets of every size.
Cost-cutting is the name of the game, and in an economy where more and more businesses are cutting back "unneccessary" expenses like media ad buys, we're going to see a lot more of this kind of thing in the future.

I wondered once they took down the Lot D how much longer C Trent would last. Seems like that was the big deal when they brought him on. When it didn't catch on, the writing was on the wall, IMO.
I'm just like everybody else. I have two arms, two legs and 4,000 hits."

Our very own Matthew Steinman is out as well per my sources. Matt, God bless you.
This is from John Fay's blog about the layoffs today:
probably heard by now that Clear Channel laid off C. Trent Rosecrans, Paul Daugherty and Alan Cutler. Homer will be down to one local show. Lance McAlister will replace Doc on nights when the Reds don't play a night game. On night games, Lance will switch to WLW at 6 p.m. Mo Eggers will fill Lance's slot when Lance is filling Doc's.
Whether you listen to these guys or not, it's bad when there are fewer voices. A few years ago you had competing sports talk stations in town.
Hiring Trent to do Homer's website was a great idea. I thought and hoped that sports stations around the country would follow suit. I think Trent did his part. I don't think the suits did their part by selling ads to sustain it.
Again, it's a sad day. Press boxes are becoming the loneliest places in ballparks.
And yet John Fay lives to write--poorly--another day.
It doesn't look like it. :thumbdown

Matt Steinmann, who produces Bill Cunningham's and Mike McConnell's WLW-AM talk shows, was let go too. Also gone are talk show producers Travis Holmes and Mark Chalifoux.
Sadly, I'm out as well. It's been fun, but I guess its time I find my life's work....and change my handle
